Transitional weather is such a tease, is it Spring, is it still Winter? Who knows. It seems like this tricky cold (but not freezing cold) weather is going to stick around for a while. And I'm beyond tired of wearing bulky coats. Recently, I have started using a little bit of creative layering to keep my body warm. The idea is to double up with two lighter coats.
Here I started with closet staple that I think everyone should have: a black (faux) leather jacket. This one is quite lightweight and not too bulky so it fits nicely underneath other layers. On top, I added a nude flowing trench coat. I love the contrast between these pieces. The leather jacket gives off a tougher street style vibe whereas the trench is more sophisticated with its uptown look. The different lengths add more interest and I think the textures play together really well.
I wanted to keep the colour palette on the neutral side for this outfit because there are a lot of different shapes, textures, and silhouettes. I love wearing looser trousers this spring and I thought the cropped pant would add a sort of casual easy vibe without looking sloppy. If you are petit like me, try wearing loose cropped trousers because they actually lengthen the leg with a bit of an illusion and showing a bit of ankle ensures that your legs aren't lost in the fabric.
I finished off the look with a simple white long sleeved shirt and my favourite black booties. I chose a longer sleeve just to add more layers so I would stay warm.
I actually wore this look to day 5 of World MasterCard Fashion Week in Toronto! I was so excited to be able to experience my first fashion show; it was freeeeezing outside, but the layering trick really did help to keep me warm and the whole day was amazing. I only went to one show, Tatsuaki, but it was still really cool seeing all these people pouring into the venue. The show itself wasn't that impressive (maybe it just wasn't to my current tastes in fashion) but there were a lot of freebies so I'm still happy. There's a few pictures of my adventure on instagram if you are interested! Hopefully i will have the opportunity to attend more shows in the future and I might even spend a whole day there. For now, I am thankful to be able to cross this off my bucket list.
All the best,
