I decided to take the practical route for the first fashion post for 2015 because I find that dressing for winter is really about maximizing warmth and comfort. But that doesn't mean you have to toss all of your sartorial senses out the window. I want to show that you can be warm and chic at the same time. It's really a simple formula: sweater + basic trousers + statement scarf.
To keep things interesting, I chose a sweater with an embellished collar. Not only does this negate the need to add accessories, but it also makes the whole look appear more polished. If it is extra cold where you live (i.e. Canada) make sure you add either a thermal or a tank top under your sweater to keep the chill away.
Since you will be bundled up and most of your clothes are going to hidden underneath a jacket, I find that it is important to find a few statement scarfs because they add an element of visual interest. At the moment, I am really liking over-sized blanket scarfs and I actually pick mine out from the men's section because they will be larger and longer! This plaid scarf has lots of beautiful colors and has some fraying on the edges. I also like that it is light weight, but because there is so much fabric it really keeps me warm.
To finish off this simple look, I added a pair of pointed camel booties. This adds another pop of color and the boots coordinate with the golden/brown tones in the scarf. Whenever choosing boots, opt for a pointed toe because they elongate the leg and look more formal.
