As someone who enjoys playing with makeup and trying out new looks, it can be quite easy for my to caught up in the hype and try out the latest offerings from the beauty world. But, I think it's more important to have a reliable base of products that you can return to time after time. In this post, I'm going to take you through the backbone of my daily routine and share the products I use to get a simple everyday look that takes only a few minutes to achieve (and forever to photograph).
I've found that the products shown below are easy to work with and stay in place all day long! To see the full list (with links to purchase) go to the end of the post.
Let's get into how I make all of this happen. I always start out with my basic skincare routine (click here to read it if you haven't yet) before I apply any makeup.
As a base, I like to use a light to medium coverage foundation that has a matte finish because my skin tends to get oily as the day goes on. This one from Laura Mercier meets these requirements and is a great colour match for my skin. I just take a bit of this on the back of my hand and buff it into my skin with my Real Techniques Expert Face Brush using small circular motions. In the past, I've also used the Benefit Oxygen Therapy Foundation.
After foundation, I like to apply a touch of blush to my cheeks and take it up to my temples. I usually go for brighter shades like pinks and corals. Then, I add a shimmery highlight to the high points of my cheeks, my upper lip, and down my nose bridge to give a "lit from within" glow. Here, I've used the blush and highlight from Urban Decay's Naked Flushed Palette in Native.
Next, I like to add a touch of eyeshadow to my lids. I use a fluffy brush to place "Heaven" the light matte shade from my Too Faced Natural Eyes Palette all over the lid. I use to same brush to add "Silk Teddy" the shimmery soft champagne color to the inner corner of my eyes. This helps to make the eyes took larger and more awake! I follow up with mascara, right now I'm using Makeup Forever Smokey Extravagant Mascara to make my lashes look extra long and full.
The last step is to add a touch of lipstick. I switch mine out on a regular basis, but you can never go wrong with a nude lip. Here I'm using Hourglass Femme Nude Lip Stylo in number 6. I really love the packaging on this product and the colour is gorgeous as well.
And that's all! Doing all of this usually takes me around 10 to 15 minutes. This look is very versatile because all I have to do to take this look from "everyday" to "wow" is add a bold lippie.
