Fall is a great time to try out new trends and take risks with your fashion choices. In this post, I will share my tips for mixing textures and transitioning your favorite warm weather pieces into fall. For me, fall is all about rich colors and textures. I love wearing jewel tones and cozy sweaters and (of course) sipping on warm drinks like lattes or hot chocolate.
When mixing textures, the easiest way to do so is by picking a heavy fabric, like this cable knit sweater, and contrasting it with a light fabric, like these silk trousers (mixing textures can add interest to a monochrome outfit as well by making each piece stand out). For this look, I picked a pastel purple sweater because I'm not yet ready to let go of summer; all jokes aside, the color of this sweater is quite muted so I treated it as a neutral piece. I decided to stick with a cooler color palette and add on these jade colored trousers that have a tiny print. Then to pull the look together I added my favorite studded (faux) leather jacket and black heeled booties.
I think that all the different textures and patterns in this look really mesh well together. You can see that the trousers have a tiny diamond print which is echoed in the diamond knitting pattern of the sweater. Little details, that are, mostly, unnoticeable add symmetry to the look and pull everything together.
I love the studded detailing on the shoulders and collar because it instantly makes any outfit look edgier. I think every girl needs a good leather jacket in her closet. They really make fall dressing so simple; you can throw it on over a simple shirt and jeans and look put together.
I picked up these silky feeling trousers at the end of summer. My intent was to wear them with loose shirts or blouses for easy summer outfit, but the jewel tone works well for fall. I think incorporating light luxurious feeling fabrics (like silk) into fall outfits is a great way to get more out of your pieces.
Lastly, here is a closer look at my makeup for this outfit. I love to wear darker lips during the fall. I chose this deep red, almost burgundy, color because it has a hint of purple that helps it pair well with my sweater. I think a dark lip can easily give any outfit a fall vibe because it looks dark and moody (like the weather). I especially like this lip color from OCC because it is 100% vegan so I don't have to worry about eating it; the color lasts a very long time and it leaves a beautiful stain behind.
